Stump Removal on the West Coast
If you’re having a tough time deciding if you should get your tree stump removed from your property, consider these factors.
- Stumps take a long time to decay, and they will attract insects and pests. Beetles, termites, and others will gather near your stumps. This can even lead to damage to the exterior, or the foundation of your property.
- Stumps cause new tree growth and contribute to new sprouts. This can result in small trees growing around the stump, which you will then need to remove too.
- Stumps can create a tripping hazard
- If you accidentally hit a stump while mowing your lawn, your mower can be damaged
- Stumps take up yard space which is especially problematic if you don’t have a large yard. You can often find a much better use for the valuable space a stump and its roots take-up
These are just some of the reasons why you may wish to have a stump removed. Of course, if you are using our professional tree removal service, we will completely remove the stump too. But, if you have removed a tree yourself, or purchased a property with stumps, then removing the stump by a professional is the best solution to the problem.

Oak Tree Stump Removal
An Oak is a very hard tree with a complex roots system. Oaks provide shade, shelter, and timber. Oaks can live for hundreds of years and reach a height of more than 150 feet, and width of more than 9 feet. Since oaks have large roots, their stumps are very difficult to remove. If you are based in Ventura, CA we are happy to help you remove an old Oak tree stump. Just give us a call and one of our expert arborists will visit your property and provide you with a free quote.
Of course, you could attempt to remove an old Oak stump yourself. In this case, you will need some tools:
- Canvas gloves
- Safety glasses
- A hatchet
- A shovel
- An ax
First, dig a circular trench around the oak stump (2 feet from the tree’s outer edge). The final trench should be 2 feet deep and 2 feet wide. After digging, scrape the soil away from the Oak’s large roots. Chop through larger roots with an ax.
While using the ax, be sure to keep your feet wide apart and bring the ax down between and in front of them. You must be very careful and alert while doing this. Keep your feet well clear of the blade at all times.
After you are done with large roots, next step is to work on small roots. Here you can use a hatchet. This will take some time because oak trees are extremely hardy.
Finally, dig down and in toward the central root while prying and loosening the stump up with a shovel.
When all of the roots are cut, pull out the oak stump, and fill the hole with soil. You’ll need more than soil than you might realize at first, since the very large oak stump takes up a lot of space.
If removing the stump out isn’t an option, drill holes in the stump and fill them with soil. Then, cover the oak stump with soil to keep it moist and to speed up the decaying process.
If this seems like a lot of work, we are more than happy to help. Using professional top of the line equipment, our stump removal specialists will quickly and safely remove the unsightly Oak stump from your Ventura, CA property.
